Waiver Request
Instructions
According to MN Hockey, players are supposed to play hockey for the association that falls within their school district where their residence is located. Players are supposed to play where they live. There are some reasons for exceptions to be made, in those cases, the family needs to seek a waiver release from their home hockey association to the association where they wish to play. There are two types of waivers: School Attendance (or mandatory) and Discretionary Waivers.
Fill out the D6 Waiver Request form and submit below. Once received, our registrar will reach out to the necessary parties to complete the Waiver process.
NPHA is currently processing waiver requests for the upcoming 2026-27 season.
School Attendance Waiver
School Attendance waivers: players might live in one school district, but actually open enroll into a different school district. They will need to seek a waiver out of their home association into the association affiliated with the school district they attend. A school attendance waiver is good for as many years as that child remains enrolled in that school district. If they switch school districts, or move again, they will need to seek a new waiver. Players can only seek the School Attendance/Mandatory waiver when they are entering their first year of Squirts/10U. Anyone who seeks a school attendance waiver during Mites/8U or Peewees/12U and older, needs to instead seek a discretionary waiver.
Discretionary Waiver
Discretionary Waivers: This includes every other possible reason a player wants to switch associations. The releasing or receiving association can place conditions on these waivers - for example, if a player wants to tryout for a AA team, but does not make it, the waiver can be conditional on them making the AA team and if they don’t make it, they have to return back to NP to play in our program.
